Andy has a long and distinguished history of working with disabled people. Born in 1968, Andy is blind himself. After attaining A levels at RNIB New College Worcester, Andy worked briefly as a club Dj, before discovering his true vocation. After applying for countless jobs unsuccessfully, Andy got a stroke of luck in 1989, when he was taken on by the Jobcentre Plus as a Disability Employment Advisor. He personally helped 400 disabled people get jobs in the 3 years during which he held the post. Andy worked in Deptford, in an inner city area of London, where unemployment stood at 20%. His clients had a range of disabilities; hearing impaired, visually impaired, wheel chair users, learning disabilities, and mental health problems. Andy moved on to work as a staff trainer for the Jobcentre Plus, designing Disability Specific training interventions. He then worked for 5 years for Westminster Kingsway College as a Guidance Worker, helping 130 blind people get jobs and assisting countless others into further and higher education. Andy believes absolutely in the ability of disabled people to succeed, and this was his motivation when founding Access Made Easy. |
